Today I want to do a short analysis of translators from Japanese to non-English languages, including Spanish, French and some other languages minority as the Basque, Catalan, Galician, etc.
Translators working in non-English languages have some advantages and some disadvantages.
Benefits are the number of translators not as great in Japanese-English and pay tends to be a little higher. The disadvantages are that there is no right or as many English dictionaries. Not only that, Japanese language is permeated by the English, especially when it comes to technical translations and vocabulary. English, words such as equipment, tools, engine, engine machining center, etc. are widely used in Japanese katakana words.
So, the Japanese-English translator who made the translation into the language very simple, and sometimes do not even know the meaning of art, but not strictly required because it is a question of changing the Katakana to Romaji spelling correct.
What happens when we translate Japanese document itself in Spanish or other languages? We need to know not only Japanese but also English and therefore we review the technical terminology. First Japanese to English and English into Spanish. Consequence Spanish translation of Japan takes a long time and know more demanding more participation is needed. The translator is forced to learn Spanish English if he / she wants to be a good translator.
So when we weigh the pros and cons of the English translation against anything that is not English languages boils down to supply and demand, which regulates ultimately the market situation, price fluctuations and to collect more or less staff (translators) in the workspace.
In other words, when we talk about economic conditions, but there is more to life than money, there is also happiness and personal satisfaction translation in the mother tongue, the language with words of love that you've heard of a child of her own mother. Therefore, many translators find joy and pleasure the Spanish translation or even when it does so more minority languages such as Basque, spoken by fewer than one million people by example.
Life is much better when money is not the first priority. To make translations and be happy!
The author is a professional translator and technical interpreter of different languages, specialized in English-Spanish-Japanese language translations at Goihata, Spain.
